Dark matter in the pub 2024
This year’s science outreach event “Dark Matter in the Pub” was a joint event between Centre’s ANU and USyd nodes. It took place on two consecutive evenings during the National Science Week, on Friday 23rd August in a pub in Canberra and on Saturday 24th August in Sydney. Dark Matter in the Pub is an entertaining science outreach event that aims to bring together scientists and the wider community to explore the fascinating and mysterious topic of dark matter.
MID-TERM REVIEW VISIT (OUR INFRASTRUCTURE)
public lecture: The Extreme search for dark matter
Elisabetta Barberio presented at the School of Physics July Public Lecture series in 2023. Her talk titled ‘The Extreme Search for Dark Matter: Exploring the Universe a Kilometre Underground’, talked about dark matter direct detection searches in the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory (SUPL).
the dark photon
Dark matter is one of the most exciting mysteries in Physics. We can see its effects but we don't know what exactly it is. One of the proposed solutions is dark photons. What are they and what do we need to find them? Find the answers in this video with Centre member Nicholas Hunt-Smith.
The elusive darkness of the universe
All we can see makes up just 5% of the Universe. The rest of the vast darkness is not as empty as we once thought, but instead filled with dark matter and dark energy. How do we know they are there? Can we find evidence for them? And what has all this got to do with Einstein? Recorded for World Science Festival Brisbane 2022 featuring Centre members Nicole Bell and Lindsey Bignell.
Dark Matter in the Pub
Centre members Zuzana Slavkovska, Yiyi Zhong, Lachlan McKie, Lindsey Bignell and Elisabetta Barberio were involved in a Dark Matter in the Pub event in Canberra in August 2022. View the highlights of the event, and individual talks.
