Centre award winners announced at 2021 Annual Workshop

The winners of the Centre’s outreach and collaboration awards were announced at the 2021 Annual Workshop today.

Michael Baker from The University of Melbourne and Raghda Abdel Khaleq from Australian National University were joint winners of the Outreach and Impact Award, while Ciaran O’Hare from The University of Sydney and Madeleine Zurowski from The University of Melbourne received the Collaboration and Centre Values Award.

In announcing the recipients, Centre Director Elisabetta Barberio said the awards recognised the invaluable contribution the students and researchers made to the Centre.

These ranged from organising Dark Matter Day activities and Centre-wide talks to actively supporting the Centre’s education program.

Dr Baker was a driving force behind the Centre’s Dark Matter Day activities, which included an open day and media engagement.

Ms Abdel Khaleq combined her passion for art with her interest in science to create an art-inspired science session for school students.

Dr O’Hare has organised talks to promote collaboration within the Centre over the past year, while Ms Zurowski has been actively involved with many of the Centre’s activities.

These contributions play a crucial role in the Centre which brings together students and researchers from across Australia to search for dark matter.
