November 6th 2019 : ADMX funding

Centre researcher Professor Michael Tobar and colleagues at the University of Western Australia are part of the ADMX collaboration, which has recently received funding from the US Department of Energy via its Basic Research Needs for Dark Matter New Initiatives, for refining and extending ADMX’s search for lightweight dark-matter-candidate particles known as axions.

ADMX is a haloscope, fundamentally the same type of device at the heart of the ORGAN experiment at UWA. Whilst both experiments utilise the same methodology, they work on complementary frequency (and hence, mass) ranges: ADMX in the range 2-4GHz, and ORGAN (ultimately) over 15-50GHz.
